Derbyshire couple Belinda and Andrew Heaney were of exactly that mind set when they quit the rat race and moved to the shores of enormous Lac du Drennec.
We live in Somerset, England and we often camp in Cornwall but this summer we decided to expand our horizons a bit and take the ferry over to Brittany. The campsite is signposted from the village of Commana – follow the blue 'Camping au Lac' signs and you'll be lead to the campsite. We went to beaches to the North around Barnenez, where there is also an interesting burial cairn. We stayed here for a week early August and despite being unfortunate with the weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. For hiking further afield, Belinda and Andrew recommend wanders around the Monts d'Arrée mountain range: a top pick to hike up to is Saint-Michel Chapel on Mont Saint-Michel de Brasparts, accessible from Saint-Rivoal 10 minutes' drive away. We would happily return to all of those places on another trip and there are more attractions nearby that were didn't have time to explore in a two-week stay. Some small kids were having their fun during the day but it was always quiet in the evenings and listening to the owls every night was one of our favorite things.
